Couch to 5k is back!

The other day my friend Ashley who has an awesome blog over at Knots by Ashley posted about something that interested me. Not only does she create amazing hats, gloves, scarves and way more but she is also working on running like me. I saw that she posted about a Couch to 5k podcast on her facebook and I had to ask her where she found it.

The podcast is titled "Podcasts for Running by Robert Ullrey" which you can find and download here: At Robert Ullrey's Website.

For someone like me, this podcast was a godsend. Not only does Ullrey explain the program but he also tells you when to run and when to walk. It's way easier than looking at your watch to make sure you are following the program correctly.

Today was my second day of Week One and I plan on doing it again on Thursday. My heart rate monitor says I burned 422 calories doing this which is pretty good considering how much walking is involved. I did 2.12 miles in 30 minutes if you're wondering about distance.

(Yes, I started back at Week One because obviously my knee needs some strengthening. I think it's better for me to get back down to basics at this point.)

Anyway, I had to share! Please check out Ashley's blog and Robert's podcasts. They are both great!

After my Couch to 5k workout, I did a few circuits from Jillian Michael's Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism DVD. The core circuit KILLED me. I cannot do a plank to save my life. OUCH!

Please share some workout secrets with me! I definitely need all the help I can get!

I'll be back later to tell you how my day at work went (I played hopscotch at work!) and how my first day as a postgrad went!

The first time i did Couch to 5k, I used those podcasts, and they were stellar! I never made it past week 3 though because I f-ed up my knee, and now I'm not "supposed" to run. I still might try it though!

Oh my gosh, I did that Boost Your Metabolism workout yesterday. So hard!! I was huffing and puffing the whole time. Those walking planks are the worst too! I have to do it on my knees. I'm no expert, but if I had to give some fitness advice, I'd say consistency is the key. Also, don't feel bad about doing the modifications. They're there for a reason. You have the rest of your life to build up to the more advanced level. Take it slow, keep it up, and you'll be there before you know it! :) I think you're already doing great!! :)

Oh yeah Em I am with you! I cannot do all of those walking planks. I have to do at least half on my knees.

I agree, consistency is a major component. However, I think a huge part of getting fit is also liking the type of exercise you are doing. I ran a 1/2 marathon last year and did not lose a pound (I hate long distance), but training for a 5K the weight started coming immediately.

Keep up the great work!!!

yay we are training together!!!!! I always used the couch to 5k program but now I purchased the app for my itouch and I love it! I told my sister that I feel like one of Pavlov's dogs because whenever that bell rings I either run or walk lol

I hope your foot feels better! What did the dr tell you??? I managed to make enough money to get new sneaker!!!! Woohoooo

Have you ever tried the Nike+ kit? It has a part you put in your shoe and a receiver you put in your iPod, and it keeps track of your workouts, pace, mileage, etc., plus it lets you have a "power" song when you need an extra boost!

Jillian's workouts and Bob's yoga workouts killed me too.

Glad the plan is working out well for you and great job on the calorie burn! In terms of running, I find a lot of what makes it tough is mental. As cheesy as this sounds- I try to cheer myself on in my head during my runs :)

Those podcasts seem so cool! I started running with the C25k program, I think it's great. I don't really follow it anymore but I pretty much just try and run 3 times a week and one of those days I do intervals. Right now I can run 2 miles no problem but it's only days when I feel super motivated that I can make 3 or 4. It's tough because I thought I'd be able to easily do 3 at this point, but I can't...So I just keep working at it!

Everyone seems to be hip on Jillian as of late. Maybe I should check out some of her DVD's? I already go the gym regularly but on days when I can't make it, it might be nice to have something KILLER to fall back on.
