Olive oil tasting

I've met so many new bloggers! I love that everyone is so friendly and nice. I can be rather shy in public so it's nice when other bloggers introduce themselves to me! Andrea came over and introduced herself and she is fabulous! We had a great time eating Street food last night.

By the way, I have decided to officially NOT count purchases made during Foodbuzz Festival weekend towards the November challenge. I realize that may sound like cheating, but I'm only cheating on myself so whatever. Come sunday afternoon, we'll be back to the challenge. (We've only spent $35 so far at Foodbuzz so not too bad!)

001

Andy and I slept in this morning and walked over to the Hotel Vitale for our Olive Oil Tasting with Chef Michael Tuohy.

002

We've been walking 3-4 miles a day. It's fabulous. I'm glad we are getting some exercise because the eats have been over the top! (in a good way of course!)

003

We had 6 different olive oils to sample.

004

And a bottle of Olio Nuovo to take home. Which translates to new oil, it's from 2009. Looks like it was bottled this week!

005

Granny Smith Apples to clear the palate between oil samples and some crusty bread just because.

006

Sniff, swirl, slurp and sip! Just like wine tasting.

007

009

The presentation was great. We learned a lot about olive oil. I really didn't know anything about the different varieties of olives so this was all new to me.

011

Put the cup in your hand to warm it a bit. Olive oil taste test are best at 70 degrees. Remember to swirl as well.

012

Sniff

013

I mean really get your nose in there and sniff! What's the first thing you notice when you smell? I struggled with this. My nose fails.

014

But you know, I get an "A" for effort. I smelled sea salt and butter. Some olive oils smelled fruity and sweet.

015

016

Don't bother me, I'm swirling!

017

The oils from Spain, France, Tuscany, Sicily, California and I forget the 6th one.

018

019

I have tons more to post but we're on our way to do more fun things! :)

That sounds like so much fun! I'm terrible at being able to pick out different flavors when I'm tasting!
