Sushi!

So last week, Wednesday I believe, our good friend Brett came over and we went out to Sushi. There aren't a lot of amazing sushi places immediately near us, but the best of the bunch is a place called Sushi Planet. We rarely go, because Amanda didn't really enjoy sushi until relatively recently. I blame this on the California Roll, which everyone seems to try first and it tastes like garbage. Amanda is becoming increasingly more adventureous with food, as am I, of late. It is weird all the things I never liked before Amanda and I started going out. The list includes beans of all kinds, cheesecake, and guacamole. Now I could eat those 3 things all the time, but probably not together. That is gross. I digress.

Sushi! If I remembered what we ordered, I would tell you. I was pretty out of it all last week following the surgery. So here we go!

Edamame, which is amazingly as always for being so simple.

Tuna, Crab, Salmon, and Avocado...at least I think

I am ususally of the less is more school of thought with sushi. Too much going on can be disgusting. It appears I was completely out of it, because I ordered this:

Which had crab, shrimp, tuna, and probably more stuff. It was good, but too much. I like clean flavors with sushi.

This was some sort of lobster thing.

Like I said, I think less is more. I should stick with this idea from now on and not go for the overpriced specials. You live, you learn.

We ordered way more, but some how that is all we photographed. I think I had something with eel at some point, which was amazing. Wow, I was totally out of it.

So, best sushi you've ever had? Is less more? I want to try sea urchin soon, but we don't see a ton of that on menus here. I have a mission to try anything intended to be eaten.

BTW, my arm is doing better. It is gnarly bruised, but doesn't hurt much anymore. I got the giant bandage off next Monday. I can't wait.

Oh man, I have had two sushi rolls that I think top all sushi rolls. They are very similar so I can't really pick which one wins.

Both have avocado, salmon, cream cheese, and crab. They're both dipped in tempure a fried quickly so it's warm but everything is still raw and they're both topped with a spicy sauce and a sweet soy sauce. TO DIE FOR!

For me, I like my sushi a little more complicated I guess. Lots of different flavors and sauces. :)

I love sushi!! Since I can't have until after I have my baby, I'm trying to talk my husband into making some with cooked fish at home.

Glad to hear your arm is doing better!! You have a wonderful nurse to take care of you!! :)

your totally right about the "less is more" think about sushi! We learned in culinary school the "specials" are usually cheap ingredients not commonly used that they need to get rid of before they go bad. I'm not a huge sushi fan. I like the taste but I'm never full from it.
Glad your arm is healing, but I would totally get on that handicap tag!

That sushi is beautiful! I've wanted to try to make my own but I have little faith in my presentation.

I like simpler sushi too. I always go for the nigiri and more basic rolls. I miss sushi soooo much!!!! My husband is bringing me some to the hospital right after I deliver this baby. Looks like a fun night out. :)

I'm not a sushi fun, but Sushi Plan makes awesome chicken and rice bowls. My favorite place is Mika Sushi. I love their dumplings. yum!

I'm a sucker for sushi. I really am. I'm sort of learning how to make sushi at home. It's an interesting process, I must say.

My favorite sushi roll is one we get in Kearny Mesa called the Diego roll - Avo & tuna rolls covered in cilantro and jalapeno bits. Spicy and yummy!

I so miss my San Francisco neighborhood with 13 sushi places within walking distance! Luckily the quality of sushi in Minneapolis has improved but still not the same as being on the coast.

I am craving sushi like crazy. I never ate it until about 3 years ago. I was afraid of the raw fish, but now I love it!

The best I've had has been in Brazil and at a resort we went to in Antigua last year. Brazil does awesome combos with mango and strawberry and we had all kinds of spicy crab and shrimp in Antigua. This looks really good!
