Santa Barbara Afternoon Date

Andy and I live about 45 minutes (without traffic) away from Santa Barbara. I love visiting Santa Barbara due to the beach, shopping on State Street and the people watching. We've gone several times throughout our relationship and have always enjoyed making a day of it. Our only gripe has been the food. Since we usually only stay on State Street, we usually end up feeling disappointed with the restaurant choices.

But not with Blush.

004

We happened upon Blush while shopping on State Street. I was hungry but heading towards Lululemon to check out their sale racks.

005

We ordered the poppers as an appetizer to share. Chorizo and Queso Fresco Stuffed Piquillo peppers with chipotle aioli.

009

As you can see, they were fried but not super greasy. Not greasy at all!

010

And one and half poppers was more than enough. The pepper was mild and slightly sweet and the creamy cheese was everything I ever could have wished for.

011

For our entree, we shared a Short Rib grilled cheese sandwich with truffle french fries. It was the perfect portion for sharing.

012

After a few hours of shopping and people watching, we drove to McConnell's ice cream. I read about it on All Things Yummy and wanted to try it!

013

I got a scoop of Cookies and Cream.

014

Andy ordered the Brazillian coffee nut. He loves coffee ice cream and this was a hit. I highly reccommend!

Locals: Do you visit Santa Barbara often? What do you like to do when you are there? I need ideas!

I love Santa Barbara! All the Nor Cal kids used to come down there for Halloween to get their party on but I only went a couple of times with my husband. I loved walking around and people watching...so much bleach!

My husband ALWAYS gets coffee flavor too!

$50 wine tours! There are some nice wineries in that area. That cookies and cream ice cream looks delish! Last time i was there I was really disappointed in the italian restaurant we chose - over priced and way too salty.

Aww what a fun date!! The popper and ice cream look so yummy. Brazilian coffee nut? Sounds like Andy picked a great flavor!

I'm so glad you tried McConnells. I feel I must apologize for the location as it's in kind of a weird area but so worth it.
I was in Santa Barbara on Sunday at the Sand Bar. It's on State closer to the beach. Awesome happy hour all week long and really fun to sit outside and people watch.
I'll be checking out Blush soon. Thanks for the recommendation. I'm with you on the restaurants. It's hard to find a good one on State St.
Next time you go, try Crushcakes Cupcakery. Really fun bakery

Whenever I go up to SB I love spending an hour or two at the harbor, sipping a beer and watching all the boaters/kayakers and getting to know some locals who spend their lives on the water.
