I Have a Dream

Sometimes I sit up late at night and I think about things I should do. One evening the following conversation took place between Amanda and I.

Me: I have a great idea! I should blog, once a week, about new beer to try!

Amanda: ok.

You can see the indifference.

So, this is what I plan to do. Spurred by the start of the National Football League (Go Chargers!), I think every Monday will be Beer Monday. Here is the real brain child. I didn't like beer at all until about 2 years ago. To that point, I didn't drink alcohol at all until I was 22 or 23. Why? I don't know. I didn't really care for most of my friends growing up who act like degenerates while intoxicated. Then I went to a "party school" in San Diego State, and saw way too many people of questionable morals. So I didn't drink, until one day I decided that I should. So I do, and I think I do so responsibly.

Fast forward to now, and my quest is to find good beer. Which essentially boils down to good American craft beers. So here I am today.

Last week I bought a bottle of this

001

Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA. As stated in the past, I love IPAs. I heard good things about this one, and it is a native of California...Sonoma County. What is not to love? It was ridiculously good. One of my favorite IPAs.

I really have nothing else to say. I don't want to be a snob, I have no idea how to describe beer as far as color, taste, body, or anything else goes. I know IPAs are really hoppy. I know I love that. Do I need to know more? Maybe I do. I think often we get too bogged down with details when all that really matters is: did I enjoy it?

The real quest here is I want to know more and taste more. Try different, new, beers. If you have anything good, I want to try it.

So, tell me your favorite.

I should also share my new favorite website for all things beer, http://www.beeradvocate.com/. Check it out!

When I first tried beer I was sooooooo disappointed! For some reason, I always thought beer would taste like ice tea...boy was I wrong lol

Mmmm beer! Do you guys have any local breweries in your area? That would be a good place to start trying out some different craft beers.

Also, I totally told you the wrong name of a beer! It's Dragon's Milk not Dragon's Blood. Shame on me!

I love beer but also lived in Germany for about 3 months last year too. Some of my favorite brands overseas are Stella Artois, Heineken, Warstiner, Pilsner Urquell, Budvar, Zywiec, Hofbräu Original.

American Beer: Blue Moon, Yuengling, George Killian's Irish Red, Shiner Bock, and Lone Star Beer

My husband is a fan of Boddington. I'll always be a Corona with lime girl.

Hooray for beer Monday! I think you should try a new one each wk from a different region or state that your readers are from :) I love all things beer but my top three as of late are

A) Sweetwater Blue (ATL based brewery, blueberry beer)

B) Big Boss Hells Bells (Raleigh based brewery, 7% alcohol content-holla)

C)Abita Purple Haze (Louisiana based raspberry flavored yummy goodness)

I love this idea! Given your interest in beer, I highly suggest you check this place out in Burbank called Tony's Darts Away. It's all local (CA) beer, all draught (no waste!), and all craft. If you're ever in my LA neck of the woods, let me know! I'd be happy to introduce you.

Don't hate me, but I don't like beer. I try it and try to like it, but it's not meant to be :)

Call me boring, but I like a plain ole Hef with a wedge of lemon. Or a Corona with lime. Actually, anything with citrus is fine by me.

So fun to meet you Saturday! See you at FB hopefully!

Fun!

I'm not a big fan of super hoppy IPAs. One of our favorites is Magic Hat #9 (their Not Quite Pale Ale).

I also love wheat beers - Nick, not so much.

Bear Racer is a great IPA! I bought it because the label appealed to me.

Have you tried Bells Two Hearted Ale? I'm probably scoring a mini-keg of that for Brian's birthday :)

Love that you are posting more Andy! :D

I love beer - my favorites being Sam Adams Octoberfest this time of year. It kills me that we can go to a place that has like 100 beers on tap and my husband orders a Miller Lite!

You know when we lived in CA we were all about wine & now that we live in MN its all about beer. We have so many amazing micro breweries here, Surly, Fulton, Flat Earth....
