Maybe I can get healthy again?

No photos on this blog today. I'm still feeling sick and gross. Luckily my doctor put me on antibiotics. It's not just a virus, I have an infection in my lungs. Nice huh?

I've felt okay to do some errands around the house and I plan on working out later day. Something at home like yoga. I think running with a chest cold would be a recipe for disaster. I'm hoping that with a little R&R, I'll be good as new come this weekend. Two weeks of coughing is enough.

When I was at the Foodbuzz Festival last November I got some samples of EO Products. One of the samples was a Rose & Chamomile bubble bath.. I've been taking a bubble bath nightly since I've been sick. The scent totally calms me down and gets me in the mood to sleep. I'm not being paid to tell you this either, I really love this product!

Luckily Allison posted on her blog about EO's Warehouse Sale and I scored some fun new products on the cheap. Thanks again Allison! I figured I'd share the love with you too.

I got these bath salts for $1.50! So stoked.

And some Lavender Orange hand soap for $4.99. I don't know about you but the scent of Lavender transports me to France. Everytime. Love it!

Check out the sale and let me know if you find anything fantastic!

Their products are natural and free from animal testing which is a huge bonus for me

These are my honest opinions. I paid for the EO products myself and loved them. I wouldn't try to swindle you guys!

Coughing is the worst

I've been coughing all week. It has made my life completely miserable. Coughing this much makes it hurt to breathe, swallow or talk. I'm so over it! I woke myself up multiple times last time to cough. Enough.

I'm drinking tons of water and taking Mucinex but nothing is really working. I assume it just has to run its course. 4 more days till schools around here start their summer breaks. I'm glad! I don't need any more exposure to germs.

Yesterday I ate like crap and I'm feeling awful about it. No photos cause it wasn't pretty.

Breakfast- 1 slice wheat toast with 1 tbsp peanut butter (not terrible)
Lunch- Veggie burger, fruit and potato soup at a restaurant
2nd Lunch- Mongolian BBQ- I loaded up on veggies but I didn't need a 2nd lunch out.
Dinner-pesto pasta (I ate 1/2 and boxed up the rest but the sauce was so decadent and creamy that it gave me a tummyache.)
Dessert- 1 small dipped cone at Dairy Queen (Once again, major tummyache.)

When I'm sick, I don't want to cook or eat at home so I end up going out. This was the first time in a while that I had a good appetite and I just blew it! I know I'm light-years ahead in making good choices from when I was younger and ate fast food but I still feel like this was just as bad.

Instead of feeling incredibly guilty, I've decided to make a pledge to eat at home until Sunday. (We're going to Vegas on Sunday) I'm going to make healthy meals at home and detox from going out to eat.

Do you ever feel guilty after a day of indulgences? How do you overcome it?

The week of eating at home, working out and swimming should help me!

Memorial Day and then some

Hello!

I've missed blogging but I've been sick with a nasty head cold. They aren't kidding when they tell you to wash your hands multiple times a day in elementary school. Working with kindergarteners means TONS of hand-washing for me. (But apparently, I failed.)

My head is congested, nose sniffly and my body is tired. I'm not quite out of the woods yet but getting close. I spend Saturday night sniffling away at Andy's parents house in San Diego. We saw a Padre game and they won! YAY!

001

Earlier this week, I made some tacos using new product finds from Trader Joe's. I love that this pre-packaged seasoning had no MSG in it. The brand I used before did so I had to toss it.

002

Yes, I stole Caitlin's shot glass taco holder idea. Worked like a charm. Besides the oozing hot sauce.

003

We filled the taco shells with lean ground beef, hot sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, diced tomatoes and guacamole.

004

We used this hot sauce. It's FABULOUS!

005

And had skinny margaritas. (Trader Joe's has an awesome mix and it's light in the sugar department. Check it out.)

006

Yesterday, I made us green protein smoothies. I figured some spinach might cure me. It was good! I am scared of green smoothies so I only added one cup of raw spinach.

010

Then it was time for a pool party and food! We heated up these baked black beans.

011

Brought out these dips.

012

Turned on the margarita machine. (This only comes out for special occasions!)

014

015

And had burgers, beans and margaritas while watching bad tv. Then we laid out by the pool with my sisters and friends. I am hoping to get some color without actually tanning this summer. It probably won't happen. I'm too paranoid about skin cancer, more freckles and weird tan lines.

How did you celebrate Memorial Day?

Gator Run 2010 5k Recap

So last night, I made a terrible life decision and ate half a baked potato with alfredo sauce, cheese and red bell peppers for dinner. Dairy sometimes really bothers me but I figured I'd be fine before the 5k in the morning.

Wrong! I woke up with the worst stomach pains. I ran about 3/4 of a mile before feeling like I might toss my cookies. I tried alternating running and walking until I saw my dad. He came to take pictures of us and jogged alongside me. He was so supportive and encouraging. My HRM said my heart rate was at 192 for a lot of the time. And it FELT like it. I was in pain. I am wondering if I had food poisoning.

Mile 1: 12:38 min/mile (I am thrilled with this pace! Imagine if I had kept it up and tried negative splits!)
Mile 2: 13:00 min/mile
Mile 3: 13:52 min/mile
Last 0.1: 2 min

Total time: 40 minutes. I slowed down from my last time by about 3 minutes. I am so bummed. I can't stop thinking about it. I wish I would have pushed myself a bit more but I probably would have made a scene. No one wants to see my dinner.

So let's back track.

002

I had have this Better N Peanut Butter for awhile. It goes bad in 11/10 so I figured I better work my way through the jar. It's not terrible but not great.

003

I mixed it with this.

004

And plain nonfat greek yogurt. OMG. Try this ASAP. It's so decadent and desserty.

005

Topped with pumpkin seed granola. Delish. Nutrish!

006

And some sweet taters on the side. Dipped in ketchup. That was my lunch yesterday. I had to show it off.

009

Andy and I met the Gator. It was the "Gator Run" get it? By the way. Andy rocked the race. His time was 31:06. He beat his PR by 2 minutes. Champion!

011

My sister Sarah and her boyfriend Chris ran the 5k too! Sarah finished in 33:38 (4th in her age group!) and Chris finished in 25:10 (5th in his age group!) They are also champions. I am the biggest loser.

012

My little brother Daniel ran his first race too. He did the kid's 1 mile run.

015

We watched. It was so much fun to watch.

017

Daniel got in the front of the line. He HAD this race.

018

The kids were flyin!

032

Here's my dad and Daniel. They zoomed past us. Dan is in the spongebob hat.

034

My dad is totally dragging. Which is hilarious because my dad has been running for 30 years. He is super fast. But Dan surprised him with his speed.

038

Daniel finished in 8:30! DUDE! He cried afterwards because he was just so burnt out and tired. He really pushed himself.

043

We got some madri gras gator beads. No flashing required.

060

Daniel even won an award for being awesome and speedy. He looks thrilled.

062

Yay for healthy and active families.

So I am bummed about not beating my time. I really thought I had this. But I am glad that I managed to stay positive and finish the race. I am signing up for another 5k stat though. I need an ego boost.

Have you ever had a horrible racing incident? Please tell me about it. I need cheering up.

Two Boos Who are Sick

Hi everyone!

Andy and I had a great time camping in Malibu Friday night. I ended up getting a sub job last minute and barely had enough time to pack up my stuff after work. (I subbed high school special ed for the first time! I want to teach high school eventually and it was so much fun!)

Anyway camping was cold. It got down to 39 degrees at night and we froze in the tent. Andy was already feeling a little sick before the camping trip and now he's feeling even worse. His head is congested and his nose is stuffed up and he can't breathe very well. I loaded him up with mucinex and hopefully he'll feel better by Monday!

As for me, I feel the startings of a cold. So we're taking the weekend off blogging. See you guys Monday!

Sick

Sorry for the lack of posts over the past few days. I've been sick with some mystery illness. One doctor told me I had a kidney infection and the other mentioned something with my intestines. I don't know what the heck is going on. All I know is, I'm in pain. My entire body aches. I feel a sharp, jabbing pain up near my ribs. Tomorrow I'm having an ultrasound to check my insides. Cross your fingers that nothing is seriously wrong!

Yesterday's doctor took my x-rays and did a blood test. He called me earlier and said, "Poor sick girl. You should get some help." That is all he said. What the heck?!??!!?

Anyway I will update you as soon as I start feeling like myself again!
