Why am I going to college?

Yesterday was my Dad's birthday. He is definitely a hero of mine so I just had to say Happy Birthday on the blog too!

momanddad

Happy Birthday Dad! I love that he is wearing a Padre's hat here. My dad is such a loyal Dodger's fan. He was just trying to win Andy's family over during his speech at our wedding.

Which by the way....I miss all the time. I wish we could get married again.

Anyway, you may have noticed that I have not been regularly posting. This is because I have finals. I have a 60 page unit plan (10 days of lesson planning and reflections) due on Wednesday. It's made me a mad woman. I literally spend all day and night thinking about school. I have 2 weeks left! I can do this, I will do this.

Sometimes I wonder why I decided to get my teaching credential. I still want to get my MA too. I have a love/hate relationship with education.

001

Last night my younger sister Kerry made dinner for Dad. She made us creamy chicken, rice, carrots and green beans. The sauce on the chicken looked like it wouldn't be that tasty but holy crap!!! It was delicious. She told me it was made with half & half. That's why. YUM. Moderation was difficult.

002

And my other sister Sarah contributed a razzleberry pie. Raspberry & blueberry. I topped mine with tons of vanilla ice cream because I am a glutton for punishment. (Dairy really bothers me if I eat too much!)

Having a big family sucks sometimes. Too many birthday celebrations and eating! The berry pie with ice cream was worth it.

We had to leave right after dinner because I wanted to watch Parenthood get some of my lesson planning done. I really wish someone would have told me that I would be writing 60 pages on lesson planning before I decided to get my teaching credential. My entire weekend will be spent writing, typing, tweeting and complaining.

I keep reminding myself that I will have my life back in 2 weeks. I have the entire summer off!

004

I plan on lots more pb greek yogurt bowls. (1 tsp vanilla extract, 2 tbsps pb, 1 cup plain greek yogurt.)

002

Eating tons of fresh veggies.

006

And telling you how awesome Kashi is. Once I'm done with school that is!

Did you/are you going to school? I can't believe that I'm 26 years old and still in school.

Man, that pie looks goooood! I'm definitely a cake girl by default, but I do enjoy a good slice of pie a la mode from time to time...

I keep going back and forth on school. I started a master's program within a year after finishing my BA, but dropped out after 1.5 classes. I'd really love to try again with a different master's program (Health Promotion), but the class times, prerequisites, money and motivation just aren't matched up right now. I'm torn between wanting to learn and not having to do homework when I'm off from work. Doug's working on his bachelor's right now and just seeing him work on so many different projects wears me out, haha.

I think once my debt situation is done with and we're more financially stable, I'll take school more seriously. Until then, I'm happy just chillin'.

I'm already worrying about applying to grad school. Like who will write me awesome letters of recommendation? And how will I come up with a 10-15 page writing sample? The idea of being done with school in a year is so tempting but at the same time terrifying to me, which is what led to me wanting to go to grad school. I figure if I stay in school, I can put off becoming an adult, instead I'll be a "student".

If everything goes as planned, I could have my BA & MA by 23. Omg.

Love you big sister. Focus on your lesson planning and Saturday night we can go in your spa! I know Andy's down.

Happy birthday to your dad! And I was equally pleased with my Kashi sample.

I went to school for 7 years and am not doing a dang thing that has to do with my education. Give it up for the underutilized J.D.!!!

Happy Birthday, Amanda's Dad!! :)

Good luck with all of your finals!! I finished my master's degree in 2007 (and my graduation got totally overshadowed by the wedding, not that I'm bitter or anything *grumble*), am currently in two certificate programs and hope to go back to school in the next few years for ANOTHER master's, this time in social work! I would be in school forever if I could :)

Hang in there - you are in the home stretch!

Sadly, I had a field hockey scholarship to college - then they dropped the program after my freshman year.

I decided to work in a bar "for a year" which quickly turned into 5 years! It wasn't until I had my daughter at 23 that I got a job as a legal secretary, and I've been doing it ever since - almost 20 years - yikes!

I really wish I would have gone to school for home economics and journalism - I would have loved to write for a food magazine!

You can do it!! Just keep saying this mantra "I'll have the summer off, I'll have the summer off!"

Oh school! Yes. I'm in grad school getting my MBA and it sucks. I am also writing a 60ish page paper and I am completely uninspired! Hang in there- it's worth it, right?

I'm 22 and still just a freshman in college. And hoping to go to grad school. I'm a nerd! And so are you, so don't be shy! Didn't you know? Nerd is the new "cool".

Half-and-half is still tame, considering that most of sauces are made with heavy cream.
