Food Obsessed

Andy again...I am going rogue. Amanda has had some family issues so fooding (did I just create a word?) around has been limited.

So I am obsessed with Anthony Bourdain/No Reservations. If you have never seen the program, it is amazing if you love food and travel. Bourdain goes to various cities/countries and samples the food, talks to local chefs and foodies, and tries to understand the food culture of whatever place he is at. On our honeymoon in Italy, we went to one of the little shops in the Rialto Market that Anthony went to on his Venice episode and I had perhaps the best salami I have ever had. In short, Bourdain rulez. With a z.

His program last night was on obsessions. Part of it was talking to food bloggers on their obsessions with food. You have to be semi-nuts, if not full on nuts to take pictures of your food, right? Yet we do this. His comments to them are: why? What is it about food that makes us so insane? The answers were basically food is like a drug. Many people refer to this as food porn. I don't know if I want to go there, but it's probably true.

My question then to you is why? Why did you start a food blog? What is it about food that hooks you? Would you say you are obsessed with food? If so, why?

For me (I won't speak for Amanda), I know I am totally obsessed. I want to try everything I can. There is nothing I won't try. I was ridiculous when I was a child. I would only eat microwave cheeseburgers, pizza, and chicken nuggets. I was always a very large kid. Now I just want more of everything good and I want to try everything I can. I got the idea of trying to food blog because I want to share what I love with people and also to find new and amazing things from the blogger world. So far, so good. Food is awesome.

So if you are up to it, I want to know. Are we just all nuts?

Great post. I love Anthony Bourdain. I watch his shows on Netflix almost every night. In fact, I will watch some tonight, even though I have a mid-term tomorrow.

Is that enough obsession for you? Hee.
Dunno what about food that makes me go coo-coo...except that it's like a drug, as Anthony said...but perfectly socially acceptable and excusable!

Haha, last weekend, I was out to eat with some friends I hadn't seen in awhile. I was taking pictures of our food, and one of them asked, so what do you TALK about on your blog? Do you just take pictures of food? And that was the first time I was kind of embarassed. Until that moment, It hadn't really crossed my mind that taking pictures of food was strange in the least.

First, please give Amanda a huge hug for me! And trust me, I will ask her if you did so get to it! lol

I started my blog to keep me accountable but then it turned into something else. I love trying new foods and showing everyone. I love to getting ideas from other bloggers. Blogging has drastically changed the way I view food, I NEVER thought I would have tofu and brussels in my fridge every week or think that Kale chips are the sh*t...

And yes I refer to it as food porn! have YOU seen some of those pics...I seriously have to wipe the drool off my keyboard lol

i wanted to channel my unhealthy food obsessions (my eating disorder) into a healthy one - hold myself accountable, and hopefully inspire others.

We love Anthony Bourdain! I started a food blog in the beginning to hold myself accountable. I thought I'd be taking pictures of all my meals. I soon found out that wasn't my thing, but I am such a foodie. I just LOVE everything about food: reading about it, learning about new foods, EATING it!! :) And most of all, I love how food brings people together.

I grew up on fried foods, pre-packaged stuff, and loads and loads of sugar...thinking that this is how everyone eats. I never thought that my body/mind could be trained into any other kind of diet. In the past 5 years or so, I have come to love whole, natural foods; and am just in awe at how wonderful everything tastes. I love food! Obsession? I would say so!

I don't know what it is about food! The different tastes, smells, textures, etc. It's such a pleasurable, new experience each time.

Don't forget to enter my giveaway!

I love Anthony Bourdain. I want HIS job! :)

I started my blog as a way to keep up with family + my recipes and meal ideas! I never really cooked until I got married, so having the blog has actually pushed me out of my comfort zone in regards to cooking and trying new things, and I wouldn't give that back for anything.

Yeah, its weird to people who aren't foodies or who just don't get it, but I love it. Food makes me happy. Making something for someone else makes me happy.

I started a food blog so I could document recipes and my journey with food. I'm still learning a lot and maybe others are too? So if I talk about it and share my experiences maybe others will join the discussion and we call all travel the food journey together. I also wanted to show people that a basic home-cook can make some pretty awesome things. You don't have to be a chef who went to culinary school. We can learn ourselves, we just need confidence.

Food is something I can get really creative with and I am proud of everything that comes out of my kitchen. I like being able to cook a great meal for someone and have them enjoy it. If I cook for you, you are special, that's how I see things.

Plus I love food and I love to eat, which makes me want to talk about it! So there's my long winded explanation. :D

I love to eat & cook & love to share that with others so I blog it. Plus I like the challenge of trying to make new things, reproduce things we have out, etc...

I was reading food blogs every day all day while i was at work and at some point the bloggers took a break and I was bored! But i wanted to get my foodie fix so i started implementing blogger ideas (ie pb in oats, tofu etc) and started my own. Its amazing how the blog has changed me. Now I am motivated to try new recipes, tweak recipes, and even visit new places all for the sake of blogging.
and food is the one thing that everyone has in common. We all need to eat to survive and bonus if those eats are Unique and DELISH!

I love Anthony Bourdain too, his show last night was great. And yes, I am obsessed with food and eating and cooking. Which is why I started my blog- I want to be obsessed with food's effect on my health and body, not just food it's self.

Yep, I'm nuts. I've had weight problems (still do) so I had to find a way to enjoy food while fitting into my clothes. Food is a huge part of our culture, so I just go with it and enjoy learning about it!

I'm not really why I started a food blog other than I find an astounding beauty in food, and many other things and aside from the actual food itself it's nice to vent, share stories, kitchen mishaps, all of that to the vast world out there, and for people to actually pay attention and be interested in what you're doing is amazing. I also find it fantastic to be able to look back thru months & months of my life and my memories...it's this ever evolving scrap book/photo album/diary... ;]

Love reading all your comments! I should have mentioned more about me. I used to be way over weight in high school. Eating just terrible food. I lost about 50-60 pounds since high school and eating relatively healthy is something I really enjoy. Heavily processed food makes me ill and is so unfulfilling.

Again...love reading the comments. And I love the love for Bourdain, even though he probably loathes us.

I ADORE Anthony. If he tried to take me away to a far away land and indulge in fantastic foods for all eternity, I think I would let him. I'm SURE my boyfriend would understand! HA!

I am obsessed. Without a doubt. I wear my FOODIE BADGE WITH PRIDE! ;)

16 comments and no honesty whatsoever. People start blogs because everyone has verbal diarrhea and everyone's a bit of an attention whore.

Reading in between AB's editing, it's easy to see the disdain for the fat bastards that started egullet, etc. The segment was an embarrassing portrayal of what we do, it's hilarious, and he's spot on. It's hip to be a foodiot right now. Let's see how this trend works itself out on 5 years. Half of the craptastic new blogs will have ceased, and there will be no new movies based on a rich woman living on a ranch with nothing to do.
