I find when I get a stitch I make my breathing a little shallower and try to limit the amount of movement in my upper body - that usually fixes it. You might want to do a google search. If you're serious about doing a mara, you should definitely do some research on training programs like Hal Higden (I can highly recommend this one) or Couch to 5K (and beyond...). Good luck - and beware - you'll get addicted quickly!Annahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13275667072660469621noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7839716249093005933.post-37703633686797466222009-09-20T19:12:08.985-07:002009-09-20T19:12:08.985-07:00You can so do it. I followed a 10 week program that started out doing 2 minutes of running + 4 minutes of walking intervals. Each week the running increased and walking decreased. It sucked at first, but I stayed diligent with the training and it eventually got easier...and fun! I built my way up to running 30 minutes. Then I did some races: 5K, 10K, 10-miler and finally a half marathon.

I mostly stick to 5k's now but I'm thinking of doing another half eventually.

Just crossing that line, no matter how long it takes, is such a rewarding feeling. A total confidence booster. I wish you much luck and please holler if you need any advice!

p.s. I think the side stitch is from alcohol = dehydration. Just a guess though.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7839716249093005933.post-83384411699477565842009-09-20T18:53:38.321-07:002009-09-20T18:53:38.321-07:00You could totally do it.
