Knee taping and recovery smoothie

Most likely, I'll be graduating physical therapy tomorrow. I'm pretty excited about this as physical therapy is incredibly time-consuming and painful. I do feel like my knee is slowly healing and my lower body is getting tons stronger.

Yesterday I ran with my knees taped for the first time.

004

I plan on posting a how-to video on this soon but please see a professional before you start knee-taping. It looks weird but the tightness of the tape nudges my kneecap into the correct place. My quads are nudging my patella out of place when I run. (Gross!)

005

Here's the tape that I bought. Not a ton but I don't plan on running with my knees taped forever. Eventually my body will be stronger and I will be able to prevent injury better. I might look into knee sleeves at some point, not sure yet.

I ran 2 miles in 27 minutes which I know it's breaking any records but it's the fastest I've got since my injury. I was STOKED! I would be happier than a fangirl at a Justin Bieber concert if I could finish the 5k in October running a 13 minute/mile pace. No shame in my slower-paced game.

The fastest mile I've ever ran is a 10 min/mile but that was before I injured my knee and developed plantar fasciitis. (The PF has disappeared! Knock on wood.)

006

Jay Robb's protein powder is amazing. I tried a scoop of pina colada in a green recovery smoothie today and it was magnificant.

007

And it was GREEN!

008

(ignore my dirty dishes, gah.) I mixed in one frozen banana, 2 frozen strawberries, 1 scoop protein powder, 1 huge handful spinach, 1/2 cup almond milk and 1/2 cup P.O.G. juice. (Passion, Orange, Guava)

So good!

Have you tried knee taping before? How did you like it?

I've never tried knee taping. I do use knee bands (instead of sleeves). They seem to help, though today is not a good knee day (blurg).

Congratulations on your run! I'm also not about breaking any speed records (I'm super slow in general, though); the point is getting out there and doing it. So good for you!

Jay Robb protein powder is really yummy and also dang expensive. The Pina Colada is tasty!

Congrats on your recovery! Dealing with an injury can be such a frustrating experience. Strength training will definitely help you in that area.

I love pumpkin in chili! I love that it thickens the chili up without having to use tomato paste.

I've never had to tape my knees before. I've actually never had any problems until this year with my IT Band. Boo.........

Glad to hear you're getting better!! Slow and steady will get you back to where you want to be without injury. :)

Congrats on the run! And pina colada protein powder sounds delish. I LOVE citrus-y flavors in my smoothies (not that pineapple is a citrus... but I digress).

I am so glad to hear you had a good run! I agree with you about speed, I've really learned to enjoy running at a slower (for me) pace and not trying to compete with myself so much. I have been able to go further and with less discomfort.

I keep wanting to try the Jay Robb brown rice protein powder but I can never find it at the store and I want to try a sample before I go buying a whole container of it ;-)

Hi Amanda & Andy, I am a fellow Cali blogger and found your blog listed on Healthy Living Blogs. I am putting together a California HLB meet-up and wanted to know if you are interested in getting together with a group of other HLB bloggers?

If so, please email me at yellowbrickbeauty@gmail.com and let me know.

That's so cool that you frequent Havasu. It is a small world. Do you have any favorite places? Normally I let the grandparents choose where we eat but this time I used yelp and found some cool places.

I just starting making green smoothies and fell in love with them. I actually made one with kale, homemade chocolate almond butter, frozen blueberries, and almond milk.

Never done the knee tapping before. Get better soon. :)
